TAHOE TRUCKEE

Day Trip Suggestions for Truckee & Tahoe

Truckee and Tahoe are fantastic DayTripping destinations. Why? Simply, there’s so much to do that a trip there leaves you wanting to come back for more. Located in Northern California near the eastside state border, we believe this destination area has something for everyone, regardless of the type of DayTripper you are, or whether you are a single, couple or a family.

Following are our suggestions for making the most out of your day trip to Truckee/Tahoe area:

Well-Rounded Adventure DayTripper-

Begin the day with a hike to Eagle Falls

Next hike across the highway and down the hillside to Emerald Bay

Enjoy a picnic on the beach watching The Tahoe Queen chug through the waters.

Take a scenic ride up Hwy 89 to the Truckee River Winery

End the evening with a concert at the stateline casinos or an outdoor concert at the Heavenly Shopping Center.

Foodie DayTripper-

(Early Breakfast) Split an omelet at Heidi’s in South Lake Tahoe

(Lunch)  Roadtrip to Truckee for lunch at Bar of America and walk off those calories by dinking around the quaint old town strip.

(Dinner) There’s no better way to end a Tahoe culinary adventure than with an authentic Italian dinner at Tep’s. Be sure to order the cannoli!

See the Sights DayTripper

Best bet: Start at South Lake Tahoe Visitor’s Center on Highway 89. There you will get plenty of tips, and maybe even a map of what to see around The Lake.

Plan to drive north on Highway 89 to Tahoe City, stopping whenever and wherever you want. Once you reach Tahoe City, take a left and head for a side trip to Truckee for lunch on the old town strip.

On your way back, skip the 89 route you came up at Tahoe City and keep heading east. You’ll be setting yourself up for encircling the entire scenic lake in a day.

Party People DayTrippers
One word for you: CASINOS!

There are several casinos in South Lake Tahoe for which you can get to by walking, taxi riding, or (at the time of this writing) even Ubering now.  With clubs in the casinos such as Cabo Wabos, or nearby, like McP’s Taphouse Grill,  you be grateful for the transportation opportunities. (Day Tripper Magazine always recommends you designate a drive and never drink and drive).
