That’s because they’re enjoying Canvas and Cocktails with Jesse Montenegro.

Jesse going over technique with a student

Jesse, who lives in Playa del Carmen, teaches art classes in Puerto Aventuras, and his group classes fill up fast! So much so, that now Jesse has to limit the participants, “We have cut the class group to 15, I feel that with 15 I can assist everyone and provide personal attention.” Students gather from all over the world, as well as just around the corner, to put their toes in the sand, a drink in one hand, and a paintbrush in the other, and walk away with a beautiful souvenir overflowing with memories from an event they will never forget.

Jesse came to Playa del Carmen from Chicago, IL. He started his career as an artist in 2004, and says “I believe a brush is only a brush, and a canvas is only a canvas; but, once you reach a point of inspiration to create, you are able to apply that positive energy on canvas via brush and paint.”

As the Paint Night craze has raged in cities all over the US and Canada, Jesse realized that people want to learn how to paint, they just need to get out of their comfort zone. What better place to expand that comfort zone, than in in the beautiful marina area of Playa del Carmen’s Puerto Aventuras? Jesse recognizes that “Art is a form of meditation.” Since so many flock to this area to participate in meditation and yoga, now they may enter moment of zen with some zin and paintbrush!

Instructing travelers and locals on painting techniques, Jesse says the teaching goes both ways. “I have learned new techniques.” But event more than that, he continues, “For someone to thank you for helping them create a beautiful painting, and for them to call a friend or family member and explain to them that they never thought they had the ability to create something so beautiful , it is priceless. That is what drives me to teach.”

While he teaches private lessons, his group lessons tend to be extremely popular, and in a matter of three months time, he is now finding himself taking reservations for these classes. His paint class events run about three hours, and Jesse provides the materials, and the wine!

He says he often notices that at the end of the class, students have built confidence and trust. It’s because of this that Jesse especially encourages first time painters to “come and discover your hidden talent.”

As Jesse reminds, “Don’t forget PAINTING + COCKTAILS = FUN !!!!!!” So, if you’d like to join Jesse for a lesson, or two, or three, contact him at:
